REVIVE Birmingham Pop-Up Project

We’re looking to build community engagement through innovative art installations in the heart of downtown and throughout our urban villages. And we want our local artist community to help us. (We have both indoor and outdoor space available.)

September 30 – October 4: Downtown Circuit (3rd Avenue North)

October 7 – October 11: East Lake Circuit

October 14 – October 18: Ensley Circuit

October 21 – October 25: Five Points South Circuit

October 28 – November 1: Woodlawn Circuit

IMPORTANT DETAILS

Pop-Up participants will be provided rent-free (plus utilities) space for one week.

For the 3rd Avenue North location, we ask that each participant be open Monday - Friday from (at least) 11a.m. - 2p.m. and 4p.m. - 8p.m. For East Lake, Ensley, Five Points South and Woodlawn, we ask that each participant be open at least one day from 4p.m. - 8p.m. Saturday hours are optional, and available. 

A panel of judges will select participants from the application pool and, based on space availability and retail types, we will assign vendors to districts accordingly. Some spaces may house more than one vendor. Participants will be responsible for display/props/fixtures and interior signage. Sidewalk (sandwich) signs are welcomed and encouraged. We ask that participants help promote REVIVE and their affiliation throughout their own website and social media networks. (We can provide digital creative that will indicate your involvement with REVIVE Pop-Up Project.)

MINIMUM PROPOSAL SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Any proposal submitted in response to this RFP shall, in order to be considered responsive, must incorporate the following elements:

A business plan for a temporary retail establishment. We encourage you to use your existing plan. Below is some of the information that we’ll be looking for:

Brief description of your business.

Brief description of you and your background.

Describe your targeted market and offering to your customers.

Describe how you will manage your business.

Describe the physical space needed for your business.

Describe your needs to open your business (i.e. equipment/marketing/setup).

Explain your financial analysis to make money with your business.

DELIVERY OF PROPOSALS 

Please condense your files to a PDF or a Zipped folder and upload them using using the form below (. All additional elements should be delivered via email in PDF format to revive@revbirmingham.org no later than Friday, August 23, 2013. Please use the subject line “REVIVE Proposal – Your Name”

REV Birmingham is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs with their business. Regardless if you are selected to participate in the REVIVE program, we will connect you to resources and professionals based on your needs. 

*Winning participants will be responsible for a $50 commitment fee, payable to REV Birmingham within five days of notification of selection.  

ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

REV Birmingham (REV) has the right to accept or reject any proposal submitted to this RFP. REV reserves the right to make written modifications to this RFP. REV reserves the right to make modifications to the timeline for occupancy. Due to the extremely tight timeline for implementing Pop-Up Project, unexpected delays may occur. 

Every attempt will be made to update participants on changes in the project timeline. Proposals shall be solely for use in connection with the purposes expressed in this RFP. Proposals will be kept confidential to avoid disclosure of contents and proprietary or confidential information to competing Proposers. The Proposer agrees and understands that submission of a proposal responding to this RFP is a voluntary action on the part of the Proposer. REV will not reimburse any costs incurred by a Proposer or any of its consultants (SubConsultants) in the preparation of its proposal, or oral presentations made for the purpose of obtaining an award of an agreement to provide the services described in this RFP.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Timely submitted proposals shall be evaluated based on the assessment of:

The Proposer’s soundness, completeness and creativity of the business plan.

The Proposer’s experience, capacity, and availability of personnel.

Frequency of occupancy. The goal of the program is to activate the space; therefore, proposals that more frequently occupy the space are more desirable.

Investment in your business concept and the space. We want to see entrepreneurs that have a plan to invest in their business. We want to see entrepreneurs that will take this opportunity to take their business to the next level. We believe that quality, well-planned investments are just as important as the quantity of investment. 

Competitiveness of proposed budget and leverage of additional funding sources, including past investments in your business.

Proposals will be reviewed and vetted by REVIVE, Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham, property owners and a small panel of local business experts.
