Jean-Jacques Gaudel, sixty nine years old “bricoleur”, collector and maker of things, real and virtual. Born in France, living in Birmingham since 1974. Mechanical engineer and oil prospector in the 60’s, designer and photographer in the 70’s, painter in the 80’s, sculptor in the 90’s, builder in 2000. For the last decade, have spent most of my time on the computer experimenting with video, animation, 3D photography, digital collage, architectural projection (PTTR, Light Dreams), 3D virtual environments, and interactive dance and live video.
Originally from St. Paul Minnesota, Mary earned an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah in 1980 and promptly moved to the southern frontier in Birmingham. She served as Artistic Director of Southern Danceworks for ten years and has recently retired from twenty-one years with The Dance Foundation. She is a teaching artist with the Alabama Alliance for Arts Education and for the past several years has enjoyed collaborating with other artists, most notably Jean Jacques Gaudel, experimenting with cameras, projectors and computer imagery.
ARTIST AT WORK
Jean Jacques Gaudel and Mary Foshee will be creating a participatory and experimental environment in Gallery 5 inside the East Lake Performing Arts Center October 22-24th. On “East Lake Artist Village Market Day” the 24th they will be inviting the public to interact with their video/ dance environment.
There will be interactive performances Friday October 23 from 5-7pm & Saturday October 24th from 5pm-7pm and 7pm-9pm in Gallery 5 inside the East Lake Performing Arts Center.
